One of my “fellow foodies” (see link on sidebar), Ariela, at Baking and Books, is working at a non-profit organization called Hazon. As she explains on her blog, “[i]ts mission is to change our world by educating people about our environment, the food we eat, and the ways in which our relationship to these essential aspects of our lives influences our spirituality. Though Hazon’s focus is rooted in the Jewish community, the work Hazon is doing affects everyone. Our vision is to create a global community of educated people who engage with the world around them by growing as individuals and working towards change.”
From Monday July 16th until September 3rd Ariela will be holding a fundraising raffle at her website, to raise money for the 2007 Jewish Environmental Bike Ride. Though she’s not required to raise money, she has decided to do so on her own accord. As an added bonus, she’s made her fund-raising efforts more fun for all of us by raffling off some great cookbooks. For each ticket you buy, which are only $5, you get one shot at winning one of sixty individual prizes (1 cookbook) or one of four grand prizes (4 cookbooks). She’s collecting donations through paypal, so it is super easy to get on and donate.
