Meshell N’degeocello will play at the Detroit Institute of the Arts as part of this year’s Summer Festival.  Born in Berlin and raised in Washington D.C.  Meshell adopted the name N’degeocello, which means “free like a bird” in Swahili, which also describes her music.  She constantly continues to push boundaries with her brand of sophisticated mix of sweet, raucous, and deeply personal rock, jazz, funk, and soul.

I have to say that I am really bummed out that I will be out of town when she is here in Detroit, but this is even more of a reason for you to go and tell me all about it. She is one of my favorite artists, and her shows are interesting because they are always a bit unpredictable. She doesn’t stick to old standards, so go and brush up on some of her newer music like this or this before heading out to the show.

*Remember: leave your camera at home- there is no flash photography allowed for medical reasons.*

Tickets for Meshell Ndegeocello are available online, or by calling the DIA Box Office at (313) 833-4005, Wednesday through Sunday from 10:30 am to 4:30 pm. Theater Box Office window and will call ticket pick-up opens one hour prior to the start of the show.  Parking is available on John R Street, directly across from the DFT theater entrance.
