Donate books to build a library for young women of color!
Builders, Organizers and Leaders through Dance (BOLD) is a program of Urban Bush Women at the Atlantic Terminal Public Housing Community Center in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. Two teaching artists from UBW go to Atlantic Terminal every Friday to lead girls, ages seven to eleven, in dance classes that engage them as creators and as leaders.
|We are trying to build a BOLD library for the young ladies of the program. The majority of the young women are of African descent, so we are specifically looking for positive books by and about women of color and artists. However, we will take any books – short stories, novels, history books, or any books for children age 7-11 would be appreciated! The young ladies in BOLD will benefit from their library by participating in the Relish Reading program. The students will read books appropriate to their age and create written, pictoral, or choreographic presentations of the books. We are eager to share our love of reading through the Relish Reading program so we would be grateful for your book donations as soon as possible. If you cannot offer books, your monetary donation would be used to purchase books.
Your monetary or book donation can be sent to:

All of us at Urban Bush Women thank you in advance!
Urban Bush Women seeks to bring the untold and under-told histories and stories of disenfranchised people to light through dance. We do this from a woman-centered perspective, as members of the African Diaspora community, in order to create a more equitable balance of power in the dance world and beyond.
