Yes, you read that header correctly, 190 restaurant is back in a new location . . . but they’re keeping the same name. I credit this restaurant with being the first place where I knew my hunny was for me. After my very first 1/2 marathon, the Inaugural West Palm Beach Marathon, she took me there for brunch.
The brunch was served family brunch style with one large table and self-serve coffee and tea. The wait staff would bring you one menu item, like eggs, omelets or pancakes from the kitchen, and then it was up to you to keep your eye on the table. The selection rotated, changing with every new edition that would be brought out of the kitchen and placed on the table. Some of my favorites included roasted zucchini and squash, tomato and mozzarella salad, brownies and chocolate chip cookies. The atmosphere was 90% of the fun, and included a mix of young and old, gay and straight, south beachers, northeastsiders, folks from way up north and from way down south. Sometimes there was a band or a DJ to enliven the crowd even more. The decor was a funky mix of what looked like found furniture that had been painted or otherwise refurbished to suit their needs.
Needless to say, when this local spot closed its doors some time back, I was very sad. My hunny and I used to drive by and look out the window like lost puppies; where was our 190?
Well, Chef Alan Hughes has been busy since the restaurant’s closing doing catering and other events. Now, he’s back in the restaurant business with a new 190. The ad doesn’t say they will be doing brunch, though I hope they add that into the mix soon.
